Chelsea Lynn Cundiff

University of California, Santa Cruz

Chelsea Cundiff is a third year student at the University of California, Santa Cruz, double majoring in the Theatre Arts and Literature. Her hobbies include vegetarian and vegan cooking, rock climbing, acting, and permaculture. Two literature and theatre theory classes with emphasis on women and minorities as authors and as represented in theatre and film have brought to light the fact that women are still objectified in the media. Chelsea is currently struggling with how to effectively approach and correct this problem.

Christian Barclay
Syracuse University

Christian Barclay is a rising senior at Syracuse University. She is pursuing a double major in Drama and History. She recently completed a semester abroad in London, England where she studied at the Globe Theatre. Her interests include photography, writing, music, theatre, and popular culture. She credits her interest in politics and womens' media to growing up in the DC area and attending an all-girls school. She is thrilled to be working with an organization that heralds womens' rights and voices.

Ellie Blalock
Georgetown University

Ellie Blalock is a Washington area local and currently a junior in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown. She is an International Economics major with a special interest in development issues. She is particularly interested in the region of Latin America after studying abroad in Quito, Ecuador in the summer of 2006 and hopes to return for a semester in the coming school year. In her spare time Ellie enjoys reading, spending time with friends and family and playing sports.

David Song
Washington University, St. Louis, MO
(June 4- August 2007)

David Song is a Maryland resident and a rising junior at Washington University in St. Louis. He is currently pursuing a double major in Economics and English Language and Literature. Aside from being involved with the student newspaper, on which he serves as a news editor, and the student literary magazine, David enjoys fiction and poetry in his spare time.

Nina Shah
Georgetown University
(June 6 - August 2007)

Nina Shah is a Pennsylvania native and a rising junior at Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service. She is pursuing a major in International Politics with a concentration in International Law, Institutions, and Ethics, and a certificate in Justice and Peace Studies (with a focus on Women and Gender Studies.) Having spearheaded a project to address the plight of sex trafficking victims in the red-light district of India, Nina hopes to further explore this women's international human rights issue through the lens of the media and the role it plays. An active board member of Georgetown University Women of Color (GUWoC), she has particular interest in issues surrounding the intersection of race and gender.

Desire Vincent is a rising junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison,majoring in Sociology and a certificate in Women's Studies and African Studies. She has an interest in women and violence. With the belief that media is a platform that individuals learn about themselves as well as others, she believes learning more about media and media justice will aid her understanding of how to promote change in the way that the relationship between women and violence is portrayed. She is a strong believer of having your own voice. In her free time, Desire enjoys spending time with her family, learning about different cultures and cooking.

Erin Conroy
University of Virginia
(June 27 - August 2007)

Erin Conroy is a rising third-year at the University of Virginia, majoring in Anthropology and Studies in Women and Gender. Her interests include international concerns with a concentration on women and children, such as HIV/AIDS and violence of all forms against women. She is actively involved in the UVa chapter of Students Taking Action Now in Darfur (STAND), a student organization that was created to help end the genocide occuring in Darfur, Sudan. Aside from these passions, Erin enjoys traveling, reading, and photography in her spare time.

(September 5 - December, 2007)

Laura Forester is a senior at The George Washington University in the District of Columbia. She is an English Major with a minor in Philosophy. She is especially interested in the way in which theories of identity and constructs of human thought influence the way society reacts to literature. In her free time, Laura enjoys traveling with family and friends, writing poetry, cooking, and staying active. She is very excited to be a part of a community and institute where her interests and skills can be used to promote equality for an individual's voice.

Calandria Somuah
Graduate of Morgan State University
(September 5 - December, 2007)

Calandria Somuah graduated from Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD with a bachelor's in English concentrating on language and literature. She is interested in writing for print media and how the public responds to feature stories and topics. In her free time she likes reading, walking, and hanging out with her family and friends. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and is involved in a writer's group Sisterscribes and Associates. She is optimistic about joining a community that will allow for her to broaden her horizons and utilize her skills to promote women's issues in the media. Her objective to write and travel.
